Event on 15.04 – Mobility, partnerships, research: New challenges for Europe and its scientific diplomacy

France Universités, the French Rectors’ conference, and Udice, the association of French research-intensive universities are organizing this event.
French title: Mobilités, partenariats, recherches : les nouveaux défis pour l'Europe et sa diplomatie scientifique.
In the USA, the deletion of climate change data from numerous federal websites is only one of the most visible signs of a multi-faceted action by President Trump's administration, the consequences of which are not yet fully apparent. A response is underway in many European Member States through demonstrations of support for researchers and research programmes, and initiatives mobilising resources to consolidate transatlantic partnerships, host researchers or secure databases.
Issues to be covered:
- European instruments which could be used, in conjunction with national initiatives, to welcome foreign academics and promote the mobility of students and researchers, particularly early-career ones;
- Actual impact of the present situation on existing cooperation instruments, specifically on dataset management;
- The need for a new kind of scientific diplomacy to deal with the consequences of the U.S. withdrawal and of the severance of the main scientific collaborations across the world.
