Fellowships and programmes for at-risk scholars and researchers
I am writing to you today regarding fellowship opportunities and programmes to promote academic freedom, that may be of interest to you and your colleagues/ networks:
1. Call for Applications: 8 Academy in Exile Fellowships at the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin and the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen. Application deadline: March 15th 2021
Academy in Exile invites at-risk scholars to apply for 24-month fellowships at the Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin and the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen. Scholars are eligible to apply from any country, who have a PhD in the humanities, social sciences, or law, and who are at risk because of their academic work and/or civic engagement in human rights, democracy, and the pursuit of academic freedom. Academy in Exile fellow-ships provide scholars with the opportunity to re-establish their scholarship in Germany and to work on their own research project in a multidisciplinary environment. Fellows contribute to the research agenda and intellectual profile of Academy in Exile and participate in affiliated research projects.

2. Call now open for the Einstein Guest Researchers and Einstein Junior Scholars programmes to promote academic freedom. Deadline: March 31, 2021
With two time-limited special programmes; the Einstein Junior Scholars and Einstein Guest Researchers, the Einstein Foundation for the Promotion of Scientific Freedom offers scientists who are threatened or whose work is restricted worldwide the opportunity to work in Berlin for up to two years. The programs are primarily aimed at promoting scientists from crisis areas.
